General Information
Wheaton Regional Park is nestled in a forest area of Wheaton,
MD. Visitors may enjoy a variety of recreational and educational
opportunities. Take a ride on a train, go horseback riding,
go fishing, ice skate, tour botanical gardens, attend a nature
program and discover the park's beauty.
Many of our facilities accommodate people with disabilities. The miniature train and Adventure Playground are designed with unique equipment to assist with mobility challenges. Brookside Gardens, Brookside Nature Center, picnic areas, and restrooms are accessible.
Park Regulations
Wheaton Regional Park parking regulations are strictly enforced.
- Park in designated areas only.
- No alcoholic beverages permitted.
- Pets must be kept on a leash.
- Buses require parking permits and are not allowed in the park on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays.
Trails
Four miles of hard-surface trails meander through the forest for walkers, children in strollers, people using wheelchairs, skaters, and bicyclists. Natural areas can be enjoyed from over seven miles of hiking and equestrian trails that weave through the park. Trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset.

Picnic and Playground
Picnic
shelters may be reserved and can accommodate up to 40 people.
Call the Park Permit Office at 301-495-2525 for fee information
and availability. Several shelters are accessible. Cooking
grills, picnic tables, and other facilities are available
on a first-come, first-served basis. The adventure playground
has a variety of exciting features and unique environments
for children. Restrooms and drinking fountains are operational
from April to October.
Pine
Lake
The shores
of 5-acre Pine Lake offer several beautiful spots for fishing,
picnicking, or just relaxing. The lake is stocked with several
species of fish. Anglers must comply with the Maryland state
fishing regulations.
Miniature
Train
A replica
of an 1863 C.P. Huntington engine pulls the train on a ten-minute
tour of the park. Passengers depart from our train station
for a ride through forest and meadow, over a trestle bridge,
and past Pine Lake. For fee information and hours of operation,
call the Miniature Train Station at 301-942-6703. The train
does not operate in inclement weather.
Carousel
Enjoy a
ride on a restored, 1915 Hershel Spillman carousel. For information

Nature Center
Brookside
Nature Center provides naturalist-led environmental education
experiences. The pioneer homestead, wildlife viewing areas,
self-guided trail, wheel chair accessible interpretive boardwalk,
and native landscape gardens add to the center's uniqueness.
Nature Center exhibits interpret local natural history. The Montgomery County Program Guide is a calendar of nature
center events, and is available at park offices and libraries.

Gardens
At Brookside
Gardens, a 50-acre public display garden, there are always
plants in bloom. Inside the two conservatories, colorful seasonal
displays accent lush green tropical plants year round. Call
Brookside Gardens for hours of operation, guided tour, program,
wedding, and special event information.
Horseback
Riding Stables
Riding
lessons for novice through advanced levels are available in
the indoor riding arena or outdoor facilities. Enjoy over
one and a half miles of equestrian trails that lead through
the park. For schedules, fees, and more information, call

Outdoor Sports
Four softball fields and two baseball fields are provided for day and evening use. Permits must be obtained from the Park Permit Office to use softball and baseball fields. One outdoor basketball court and four handball courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Tennis
Six outdoor tennis courts are lighted for day and evening use. There is an indoor tennis facility with an additional six courts for year-round play. Indoor courts must be reserved. For information and availability, call Wheaton Indoor Tennis at 301-649-4049.
Ice Skating
The athletic complex also features the Wheaton Ice Arena. Open year round, an assortment of programs are offered including lessons and rental time. Sessions are available for the general public, adults only, and family time. For your convenience, rental skates are available. Call Wheaton Ice Arena at 301-649-3640 for schedule information and fees, and for information about in-line skating.
In-Line Skating
Open April through September, the Wheaton In-Line Skating Facility is a National Hockey League-sized, covered facility available for rental by hockey teams or leagues, or by special interest groups and individuals. The in-line facility is open October through March for ice rentals. Call 301-649-3640 for rental information.
