Georgia Avenue Concept Study
Montgomery County planners are working to create a new vision for Georgia Avenue. Working with the community - residents, workers and property owners – planners will develop a framework that guides upcoming planning efforts, including sector plans for the neighborhoods surrounding the Wheaton and Glenmont Metro stations.
The study will analyze a variety of development scenarios for some of the large commercial properties along the road. Planners will consider urban design elements that could enhance Georgia Avenue’s appearance as well as protect residents – particularly pedestrians – through better-designed sidewalks, crosswalks, bus shelters and landscaping.
Key steps
- Develop an inventory of major land uses along the corridor
- Conduct environmental, transportation and urban design assessment of critical areas along the corridor
- Research examples of corridor planning in other jurisdictions
- Analyze alternative urban design scenarios for the corridor
- Develop recommendations and start staff draft of the report.
