Federal Tax Credits

Maryland Energy Administration (MEA)
The State of Maryland offers incentive grants to residential property owners for installing geothermal heat pumps, solar energy systems and small scale wind turbines. In addition, MEA offers several programs that give community members resources to build new homes to Energy Star standards or to upgrade the energy efficiency of existing homes. Energy Efficient Mortgages (EEM)
Buyers qualify for a higher loan amount on energy efficient homes as rated by Homes Energy Rating System (HERS). The energy bills are less expensive in these homes leaving more money to put into the mortgage payment. Energy efficient mortgages are available through various banks and federal government agencies.
