Athletic Area
Athletes and spectators can enjoy a variety of sports facilities located within Cabin John Regional Park.

- 4 Tennis Practice Walls (lighted)

- Pee-Wee Soccer Field
- 4 Single Wall Handball Courts
- 1 Volley Court
In addition to these sports facilities, restrooms, play equipment, and hiking trails are available. Pee-Wee soccer field, softball and baseball fields require permits for use. For further information contact Park Permits Office
Indoor Tennis
The six indoor tennis courts are open for year-round play.
Ice Skating Rink
Ice skating in June? Come join the fun at the fully enclosed Cabin John Ice Rink. Offered is an assortment of programs including lessons and rental times. Sessions are also available for the general public, adults only and family time. For your convenience, rental skates and a snack bar are located within the facility. Call cabin John Ice Rink for information about schedules and fees.
Locust Grove Nature Center
The Locust Grove Nature Center offers environmental education programs, trail walks, nature films, conservation projects, workshops and interpretive exhibits.
Concerts
During the summer months, evening concerts are offered to the public free of charge. Schedules are available through Locust Grove Nature Center, the Montgomery County Department of Recreation, and Public Libraries of Montgomery County. Concerts are held at the Park's outdoor amphitheater weather permitting. Groups interested in using the amphitheater should contact the park manager at
Cabin John Amphitheatre
Cabin John's outdoor amphitheater is available for plays, concerts and other performances during the summer months. Groups interested in using the amphitheater should contact the park manager at 301-299-0024.
The Robert C. McDonell Campground
Seven walk-in primitive sites are available with drinking water, grills and tables at Robert C. McDonell Campground. Permits are available for use of campsites and can be obtained from the Park Permit Office.
Hiking
Enjoy over five miles of hiking trails which have several access points throughout the park.
Group Picnic Area / Playground Areas
Our group picnic and playground areas offer shelters, tables, drinking fountains, grills, restrooms, and playground equipment including ActionPlayland are available to the public. A snack bar is open on weekends and holidays from late spring through Labor Day. Buses require access permits which are issued by the Park Permit Office
Group picnicking for 175 persons (maximum) is available through reservation. Shelters, restrooms and sports equipment are provided. Light alcoholic beverages are permitted in this restricted area. A fee and permit are required. Call the Park Permit Office to make reservation.
Miniature Train Ride
At Cabin Joh regional Park both children and adults are entranced by a ride on the miniature train. A replica of an 1863 C.P. Huntington engine with five passenger cars carries visitors on a ten-minute, two mile ride through the Park. The train does not operate during inclement weather.
