New at the center!
Our large public viewing scopes (20 power) have arrived and are installed. One is on the back deck of the center and two others are located near the lakeside fishing pier, one of which is handicap accessible and good for children.Come out and enjoy the new view of the lake!

April 1 - Sept. 30, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. daily
Oct. 1 - March 31, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. (Saturday and Sunday ONLY)

NOTES:
- Interpretive programs are offered year-round for families and individuals of all ages, from preschoolers to seniors. In addition, during the school year, educational programs are offered to schools, home-schoolers, scouts, and other organized groups.To reach the Naturalist Staff call 301-972-5991.

Related Cancellations Notice: During inclement weather, Nature Facilities follow Montgomery County Public School closures, delayed openings and early releases. If school is closed for inclement conditions, all children's programs are cancelled. Cancellation of Adult programs is determined on a case-by-case basis. Please call the nature facility to check on adult program status, 301-972-5991.

1st ANNUAL NATIVE PLANT SALE!
by the FRIENDS OF BLACK HILL NATURE PROGRAMS
Friday, May 16 from 5-7 PM and Saturday, May 17 from 9-noon.
The native plants may be used for attracting hummingbirds & butterflies as well as for planting pond or rain gardens, spring wildflower gardens, and naturalistic meadow plantings. Many can be container-grown on a deck or balcony. There is great variety and all are healthy & ready for planting. Come early for the best selection. Tell all your friends. Volunteers and staff will be on hand to answer your native plant gardening and landscaping questions. Enjoy free refreshments while you shop. Proceeds support Black Hill Visitor Center nature programs & the continued operation of the greenhouse. Many of the plants grown in the greenhouse will be planted in our visitor center wildlife display gardens, in the wildflower meadow by the parking lot, at a wetland at Sally K. Ride Elementary School, and in two Monarch Waystation meadows in the park. One meadow is planted and maintained by Montgomery County Master Gardeners, and the other is progressing with occasional plantings by the public.
The following plants will be for sale: Blue Vervain,Butterfly Weed, Columbine,Cardinal Flower, Heath Aster, Dogbane or Indian Hemp, HollowJoe-Pye Weed, New England Aster, New York Ironweed,Mountain Mint, Queen Anne's Lace, Swamp Milkweed, Purple-Stemmed Aster, Pusstoes, Tropical Milkweed "silky gold',Wild Blue Phlox, Wild Bergomot, Wild Turtlehead, Wild Geranium, Wild Bleeding Heart ,& Canada Goldenrod.
