Group picnic areas
Permit Information and Application
- Available for use from April 1 through October 31
- Reservations accepted as of January 1 for the current season
- Two-thirds of all participants must be residents of Montgomery or Prince George's County, MD
- No fees or monies may be collected or exchanged
- Moonbounces require prior approval from the Park Manager and liability insurance. Contact the permit office for details.
Cancellation policy
If a reservation is canceled more than 30 days in advance, the fee will be refunded but a portion (see fees below) of the deposit will be retained by the Commission. If a reservation is canceled less than 30 days in advance, both the fee and deposit will be forfeited.
Inclement weather policy
Barring a weather related emergency requiring closure, Group Picnic Areas will be open and available for use on the day of the reservation. If your reservation is canceled due to inclement weather and the reservation cannot be rescheduled, the fee will be returned and the deposit retained to cover administrative costs. No refunds will be made once the permitholder has entered the park site to use the facility.
Alcohol policy
Beer may be served from kegs only, and wine may be served only in liter bottles or larger. Paper or plastic cups must be used, NO GLASS. Beer and wine may be consumed only within the Group Picnic Area. No other alcoholic beverages are allowed. Maryland State law as to age of consumption applies.
Equipment package includes:
- 2 Softballs and 2 softball bats
- Volleyball and volleyball net
- Frisbee
- Playball
- Football
- 4 Horseshoes (12 for Cabin John)
Group Picnic Area Fees *
$330 per day per area
$150 refundable security deposit
Cancellation Fees
If a reservation is canceled more than 30 days in
advance, the fee will be refunded but $55 of the
deposit will be retained by the Commission. If a
reservation is canceled less than 30 days in advance,
both the fee and deposit will be forfeited.

How to make a reservation
Reservations are accepted up to 6 months in advance for weekends, and up to 90 days in advance for weekdays. To reserve the gym, submit the appropriate application to the permit office.
