Description:
The Montgomery County Department of Park and Planning's Historic Preservation Section contracted with Potomac Hudson Engineering (PHE) to undertake a survey of buildings in the Silver Spring CBD. This work was funded by Montgomery County as mitigation for the demolition of the Silver Spring Armory.

The survey was completed in December 2002. On June 19, 2003, the Planning Board was briefed on the project and conducted a public hearing. On July 28, the Board added 4 resources to the Locational Atlas: the National Association of Dyers and Cleaners Institute Building (8001 Georgia Avenue); the North Washington Shopping Center (7900-7912 Georgia Avenue); the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department (8131 Georgia Avenue); and the Falkland Apartments (16th Street and East-West Highway)
