Public
Project

(1) vicinity map
(2)
renovation plan
(3) children's playground
Description:
The
plan recommends renovation of the park in partnership
with the City of Takoma Park. Key recommendations include:
1) closer coordination between M-NCPPC and the City
regarding maintenance and management of the park; 2)
use of volunteers to assist in restoration and maintenance;
and, 3) renovate selected park facilities, restore degraded
natural areas, and retrofit stormwater management to
the site.
An
initial project is to place a local skateboard park
on the tennis courts. The City of Takoma Park will seek
a Maryland Community Parks and Playground grant. The
City will construct, staff, operate and maintain the
skateboard facility.

Opportunities
for Public Participation:
The Plan (March 2002) was prepared during a three-year
period and included participation by Park and Planning
staff, the City of Takoma Park, the Takoma Park Green
Team, and other City residents. The City and Park staff
conducted public meetings prior to the staff recommendation
to propose a local skateboard facility on the two existing
tennis courts.
Planning Board Review Process & Case Number:
The Planning Board will review the proposed Facility
Plan on August 1, 2005.
Planning Board Action:
The Planning Board was briefed on the proposal on March
7, 2002. Approval to lease two tennis courts to the
City of Takoma Park for the purpose of operating a skateboard
facility was received on March 14, 2002.
Notes From M-NCPPC Staff Contact:
New fencing is provided around both tennis courts.
Initially one court will be used for roller hockey and
the other for tennis. In the long run, they will both
be used for a skateboard park. The tennis courts at
Takoma Park Middle School were just resurfaced so that
gives the tennis players more options for courts.
